MAY: Duke Skeggi Build-A-Sword Challenge
Two sturdy fighters took up my Challenge that day, attempting to create a rattan sword suitable for a Crown Tournament in an hour or less. Sir Ataias, Sir Sun Jiang and I gave it our best try. It was Sir Ataias who completed his sword with 4 min. to spare. My thanks to these Knights who took up my Challenge.
I' dedicated this Challenge to Masters Mischka Ravensfuri and Sion ap Llwyd.
Many folks, like me, came to know Sion through his daughter Arwen aka Jaquiline Lioncourt. For me, it was sometime early in my SCA participation. He was mainly a Marshal upon the field of honour, looking after combatants and their safety and yet leaving them to make their own decisions within the rules of conduct. Years later, Sion would became one of the first Courtiers of Three Mountains. He and his beloved wife Anne were trusted friends. Sion was a consummate gentleman and wisdom set upon his brow. He was elevated to the Order of the Pelican by Darius and Morgaine at July Coronation Anno Societatis Thrity-Two.
Mischka Ravensfury was a friend of many years and honoured me by becoming my apprentice. Many will remember him as an oak of a man at forge gatherings he and Master Grendal would attract. There he would be, standing in the light of the forge, spattered bits of slag iron falling like rain around him. Many an outdoor event was gifted by “The Forge Party” and fond memories abound. Mischka was ever generous with his knowledge, encouragement and kindness. He was elevated to the Order of the Laurel by Sven and Signy at Twelfth Night Anno Societatis Thirty Two.
